  • Our programming encourages a social learning environment where fun and creative learning can come together.

  • Classes are suitable for all skill levels and no prior artistic knowledge is necessary for new students.

  • All equipment and materials are provided in class.

  • School holiday short courses are an adaptation of our term programming and offer high-quality learning experiences through engaging projects. Technical skill development is applied alongside creative thinking strategies to encourage students to develop their abilities and interests in a supported environment. 

  • Short courses run for a total of 6 hours across 3 consecutive days. Short courses equate to 50% of the term workload.

  • The Children's School of Contemporary Art has developed multi-year programming across all areas of learning allowing us to deliver exciting new content each term. Students are exposed to a broad range of subjects, materials, processes, and techniques throughout their education. 

  • A program outlining the upcoming term will be emailed to all enrolled students before the beginning of the short course.

Design, Build + Make Short Course

This short course is comprised of 2-hour sessions over 3 consecutive day

A class for curious, creative, and inquisitive young minds who love to build and make - this program is aimed at developing and nurturing designing, building, and making skills in a fun and supportive environment. Through this program, students will think, create and visualise their grand designs into scale models. Students can expect to learn skills in design and construction, model making, mold making, sculpture, and handcrafting.

Project Theme: Model Cafe

Course Description: Build your very own loose parts cafe in this Design, Build and Make Short Course. Over the workshop, participants can expect to build, make and create their own unique cafe scene using sculpting, crafting, and model-making techniques.

Participants can expect to:

  • Design a Theme and Style for their Cafe

  • Build Miniature Furniture

  • Create Food and Beverages

Materials Used: Air-dry foam, wooden blocks, quick-dry glue, hot glue, beads, buttons, foam stickers, pompoms, balsa wood, textured papers, and various other art & craft loose parts.

Fashion + Textiles Short Course

This short course is comprised of 2-hour sessions over 3 consecutive days

Fashion and Textiles spearheads new waves of experimentations with fashion garments and accessories in a fun and social learning environment. Texturing, silhouetting, hand stitching, machine sewing, cutting, pattern making, accessorizing, draping, twisting and appliqueing are processes students will learn and practice. Students can expect to experience explorations and play-based learnings centered on the creation and production of student-designed fashion items and garments.

Project Theme: Fashion Dolls

Course Description: Students will be supplied with reference images to design and make a stylized doll. Students will create hair with wool, draw faces, hand sew clothing and shoes and create accessories. This project introduces students to hand sewing techniques, simple pattern making, fabric cutting, and accessorizing.

Comics Short Courses

This short course is comprised of 2-hour sessions over 3 consecutive days

This Comics Short Course introduces students to a variety of different drawing, illustration, and cartooning techniques and mediums. The course aims to build upon the artistic growth of the student's inner and outer worlds, of expressing narrative ideas through illustrative art. Students can expect to learn a variety of techniques and processes used by professional artists and illustrators in the comic, animation, and graphic design industries to develop technical skills alongside creative thinking strategies.

Project Theme: Comics the Marvel Way

Course Description: Comics is a medium used to express ideas by images, often combined with text or other visual information. Comics frequently takes the form of juxtaposed sequences of panels of images. Often textual devices such as speech balloons, captions, and onomatopoeia indicate dialogue, narration, sound effects, or other information. The size and arrangement of panels contribute to narrative pacing. Cartooning and similar forms of illustration are the most common image-making means in comics.
