The 6 hour workshop encourages students to stretch their creativity while they look at many different mediums over a variety of projects. Participants can expect to practice the following skills while making a series of artworks and usable pieces:

  • How to make, whittle and sculpt a wand using polymer clay and native hardwoods

  • How to mix and make potions using liquid art mediums

Drawing + Shading Masterclass (8- 16 years)

 

Subject: Landscapes Made Simple 

 

Workshop Description: This is a technique development masterclass for students looking to learn and/or advance their skill in the art of drawing natural landscapes.

  

Students attending the workshop will learn about concepts to form traditional landscape drawings, including the use of atmospheric perspective. They will be shown, through demonstration and examination of reference artworks, how variation in the depth of detail and tone applied creates depth. This project will involve an introduction to techniques, the initial landscape sketch, and the application of loose, light tone in the background; followed by a focus on increasing tone and detail towards the landscape foreground. Participants can expect to learn:

​

  • Atmospheric perspective

  • Drawing with a variety of graphite pencil weights

  • Using drawing tools and techniques such as paper stumps, erasure and hatching.

  • Perceiving and replicating depth in a landscape through drawing.

Participants can expect to learn the basics of contour drawing and acrylic painting used by professional artists. Techniques taught in this workshop include:

  • How to select and use a range of paint brushes

  • How to mix tones and tints

  • How to manipulate acrylic paint, materials and tools

Workshop Theme: Learn to draw and shade faces + learn anatomical life drawing

 

Workshop Description: Our Faces 101 and Life Drawing workshop is a basic drawing class on human anatomy made suitable for young artists. During this workshop, students will focus on two figure drawing aspects. One of the sections of the workshop will explore the human head and facial features through measuring proportions and sketching. The other will involve students to experience a super exciting movement drawing activity where they will draw a variety of poses of a costumed live model in the classroom. Participants can expect to practise the following drawing techniques:

​

  • How to use a variety of graphite pencils, and other drawing tools

  • How to gently contour sketch

  • How to proportionally draw a human head

  • How to map and break down facial features into shapes

  • How to apply basic shading techniques

  • How to see movement and shapes that make up a drawing of the human body

  • How to draw a flowing and relaxed human figure

  • How to understand and explore colour theory

  • How to mix tones and tints

  • How to use a variety of tools and materials for oil painting

PORTFOLIO WORKSHOP (Preparation For Secondary Selective Entrance Programs)

 

Workshop Theme: Preparation for selective entrance programs + portfolio building and development

 

Workshop Description: This short course is designed specifically for students looking to enter specialist high school art programs. Participants can expect to develop their creative thinking processes and art-making techniques in preparation for sitting the visual arts Gifted And Talented Secondary Selective Entrance workshop.

 

Each day students will be led through a series of exercises designed to hone creative processes and strengthen each student's unique approach to art-making.


Day One: Building a Portfolio, Analytical Writing, Analytical Presentation (verbal), Student-Led Portfolio Artwork: Project Planning

 

Day Two: Introduction to Observational Drawing, Life Drawing (with a live model - clothed), Student-Led Portfolio Artwork: Project Development

 

Day Three: Introduction to Conceptual Art, Conceptual Sculpture, Student-Led Portfolio Artwork: Refining and Finishing, Mock Portfolio Presentation

 

All materials provided in class.

 

Please bring to your first class your top 12 artworks created in the last 18months, this could be paintings, sketches, drawings, sculptures, videos, animations, photographs, etc. 

 

Participants take home: Students will be provided with an A3 portfolio and mounting materials to keep and take home. Over the course, students will create analytical writings, observational drawings, airdry clay sculptures and student-led artwork in their chosen medium

Workshop Description: The Adventurer’s Toolkit workshop is an art and nature session for young artists that enjoy the great outdoors. The 6 hour workshop packs in a variety of arts and craft projects based around outdoor explorations, mapping, making traveller’s objects, and finding the beauty in nature. Participants can expect to practise the following skills while making a series of artworks and usable pieces:

  • How to make a custom badge

  • How to create a utility belt

  • How to practise knot tying

  • How to sculpt polymer clay into a pencil decoration

  • How to age the pages of a journal using tea staining

  • How to make a quill

  • How to make natural pigment

  • How to create a birds eye view map

  • How to create botanical drawings

  • How to collect, arrange and record natural objects

No prior experience is necessary.

 

Materials Used: pre existing sling bag, badge making machine and materials, strings and beads, polymer clay, pencils, animal reference images and test paper strips, A5 visual diary, strained tea, brushes, botanical drawing reference images, feathers, Indian ink, ochre, charcoal, earth, paper for map.

DOLL'S HOUSE FULL DAY WORKSHOP (5 - 12 YEARS)

​

Workshop Theme: Design and Style Your Very Own Doll’s House

 

Workshop Description: Design and make your very own doll’s house during this full day model-making workshop. This process art workshop is designed to encourage imaginative play alongside creative and technical skills development. Each participant is given an assembled Ikea Doll’s House to style and furnish and can expect to learn how to design and construct their very own own unique scenes using sculpting, crafting and model-making techniques.

 

Participants can expect to:

​

  • Learn the importance of planning and designing before making a practical 3D artwork

  • Learn how to safely use model making tools and equipment

  • Design and style miniature rooms 

  • Create scale household items such as furniture, toys, pot plants and food. 

  • Work with materials such as balsa wood, textiles, polymer clay, acrylic paint, and a variety of found objects.
